Legal Requirements

Continuous Residence in Spain

You must have remained in Spain continuously for at least two years prior to submitting the application.
It is important not to hold the status of an international protection applicant at the time of application or during its processing.

No Threat to Public Order, Security or Public Health

This requirement ensures safe coexistence and compliance with current legal standards.

No Criminal Record

You must not have a criminal record in Spain or in any country where you have lived during the five years prior to entering Spain, for offenses recognized under Spanish law.

Not Listed as Inadmissible

You must not be listed as inadmissible in Spain or in countries with which Spain has agreements restricting entry.

Payment of the Application Fee

As with most administrative procedures, the application requires payment of the corresponding fee within the established deadline.

Previous Residence Authorization

You must have previously held a residence authorization that was not granted under exceptional circumstances. This pathway applies when the renewal of that authorization was not granted due to reasons unrelated to public order, security or public health. It may also apply in cases where a favourable resolution exists, such as an acquittal, dismissal of charges, or a final decision that has removed the reasons preventing the renewal of the previous authorization.
